The Eeyou Eenou Police Force (EEPF) is ticketing individuals in non-compliance with social distancing orders.
Dispatches in each community are working to strictly enforce all government mandated measures related to the COVID-19 outbreak, which has resulted in numerous confirmed police interventions.
On April 2nd, EEPF officers intervened at a house party taking place at a residence in the community of Ouje-Bougoumou.
Four community members were present, none of whom were related, or lived together in the residence in question. The EEPF issued fines of $1000 to each individual involved.
In Chisasibi, an individual claiming on social media to have contracted COVID-19 was taken to be screened by medical personnel at the local hospital. The individual was cleared, and was later charged with public mischief in the matter.
The EEPF reported issuing another 19 tickets in relation to non-compliance with social distancing orders. Several of these tickets were issued to individuals previously fined for breaching social distancing rules.
The EEPF has also continued to crack down on other criminal activity within the communities.
On April 3rd, the EEPF conducted a successful drug seizure at Kilometer 237 of the James Bay Highway. The seizure, part of an EEPF operation known as “Project Central”, resulted in the confiscation of 157.8 grams of a white powdery substance, as well as $1,815 in cash.
Two Nemaska residents were arrested during the operation.
