To date, there have been five confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Eeyou Istchee, bringing the total of Cree currently fighting the virus to six — one who was diagnosed and has been isolated and treated in Montreal at the Espresso Hotel.

Of the six positive cases, three have been confirmed in the community of Chisasibi, and two in the community of Nemaska.

One of the positive individuals from Chisasibi has now been transported to Montreal for specialized care.

In all, the Cree Health Board reports that 143 tests for COVID-19 have been conducted on Cree community members. Of these tests, 118 have returned negative, with 20 awaiting results.

Individuals awaiting results have been directed to self isolate. It currently takes 36 hours to receive COVID-19 test results.
